The Windham Recovery Community Center (WRCC) is a beacon on Main Street, Willimantic for those that are looking for a safe and supportive place to be and the first of its kind in this state, maybe the co 2 3 1untry. We have a 1700 sq. ft. center with the first floor being the main meeting room where many great things happen. Such as, All Recovery meetings every day at 12:30 (peer-led recovery meetings), computers to use for job searching or keeping in touch with family, phones and copier to assist those that are trying to get their life back in order. With only two paid staff, CCAR’s volunteers, made up of persons in recovery, family and friends have played an important role in keeping our Center open and offers many opportunities to give back to the recovery community and the community-at-large. Also in the main meeting room we host many life enhancing trainings and many social events.
The second floor is where our Telephone Recovery Support program comes alive as a trained recoveree calls another recoveree to see how they are doing and if the need any assistance. Also, Recovery Coaching goes on as a trained recoveree coaches another recoveree to develop a ‘life wellness plan’. WRCC and it’s volunteers/members have played a large part at changing Windham from what the states major newspaper labeled as Heroin Town to what is now being called Recovery Town by many. On the second floor you will also find the manager and the volunteer coordinator, come and visit.
See some newspaper clippings of recent events at the Windham Center.
